I’m Angela Petersen, a multidisciplinary artist based on the Northern California coast, originally from Salt Lake City. My work spans photography, painting, illustration, graphic design, and metalsmithing, with a strong foundation in still life and a growing love for surrealism. Whether I’m etching fine silver, capturing rusted signage through my lens, or painting forgotten objects, I’m drawn to the intersection of beauty and eeriness. where nostalgia meets the uncanny.
I love tension. Strong juxtapositions. I find inspiration in creepy-but-charming objects like antique dolls, worn ventriloquist figures, rusty jack-in-the-boxes, and masks that smile just a little too wide. I obsess over tiny details, textures, and atmosphere whether I’m building a surreal scene or simply documenting the quiet poetry of a moss-covered hydrant.
While I’ve worked across many forms, photography has been my focus lately. I started in the darkroom at 13 and resisted the digital shift for years but now I find joy in digital shooting and editing, building on skills I honed in graphic design school. My recent work explores street textures, shadowy stillness, and the personality of place.
I find inspiration in nature, music, and architecture—from towering cathedrals to collapsing shacks, Gothic to Mid-Century, forests to city streets. I’ve wandered through the redwoods and deserts, snowy rivers in Yellowstone, art deco corners in Salt Lake, and the misty coasts of Humboldt. These places haunt my work.
This site begins with photography, but more is coming. I’m always experimenting, always evolving—and always creating.
